CSR MALAWI

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. More than half of the population lives in poverty with less than $ 1 dollar a day. Most of the inhabitants are farmers and live under the constant threat of not having enough food. Malawi is also a victim of the impact of HIV and the AIDS pandemic. CRS works in alliance with the Catholic Church in Malawi so that people can farm more food, improve their health and earn more money.

CRS has been administering a food security project supported by the Coppel Calvo Family and the Borges-Coppel Foundation since 2005, which today includes:

√ The construction of 158 kindergarten classrooms where 16,036 meals are distributed daily.

√ Deworming 12,011 boys and girls twice a year.

√ Weekly provision of nutritional supplements to 718 people living with HIV.

√ Distribution of 29,971 meals to Sunday school children each week through the local Catholic Church.

√ An alliance with 44 local schools where 22,400 meals are provided daily.

√ Delivery of 1,958 meals a day to two boarding schools of young women and men who study middle and high school.

√ Distribution of 392 weekly pantries to orphan families, where both parents died and a young brother supports the others.

√ Support for 90 orphaned children who live in the village orphanage and have no other option to live.

√ Milk formula distributed to 240 babies weekly including nutritional supplements.

√ 412 extra nutritional supplements are provided through clinics for children and adults in moderate and severe malnutrition.

√ 53 vulnerable and orphaned children are supported with high school scholarships.

√ 600 orphaned and vulnerable children (OVCs) benefit annually with packages that include (clothing, toiletries, school supplies, and basic household items).

√ Support to 4,250 farmers (more than half are women) with seed, fertilizer, pump irrigation systems and guidance in improving their grain farming and storage practices with the intention of gradually creating self-sustainability in the communities.

√ Every year we drill 10 wells of drinking water in places where they serve 50 families each. To date we have built 93 water wells.

√ Donation to date of 71,740 fruit trees.

√ Containers with freight bikes, solar lights, balls, books, etc. are also occasionally shipped.
